super-smash-bruh:

I really doubt many developers are going to just ditch 3DS Classic since it has a huge install base already. I expect a bunch of games to have bonus features when played on N3DS, and maybe some more ports down the line. Exclusives will probably be from Nintendo themselves or from indie devs.

strobeflashlite:

it isn’t earthshattering nintendo news unless nerds and/or hipsters on the internet declare it THE END OF NINTENDO

"why call it a 3ds if games made for it cant be played on the older 3ds" YEAH! AND WHY COULDNT WE PLAY GAME BOY ADVANCE GAMES ON OLDER GAME BOYS? THIS IS GRADE A GREEDY CORPORATE BULLSHIT I SWEAR TO FUCKING GOD THIS IS WHY I FUCKING HATE NINTENDO

Some thoughts about the “New 3DS”

That Nintendo Direct was intended for Japanese audience, so there is a chance that it will have a different name when it’s released worldwide to prevent any confusion between a new 3DS and a “New 3DS.” Also when people go to buy consoles, they just ask for the console by its name if they want a new one or they specify for a used one if they want a used one, (e.g. “Do you have the New 3DS?” vs.”Do you have the 3DS?” vs. “Do you have any used 3DSs?”) so there’s not gonna be any Abbott and Costello “Who’s On First?” confusion.

For anyone mad about New 3DS exclusive games, try to look at it this way: you know how you can’t play SNES games on an NES, even though they’re basically the same consoles except the SNES has a couple more buttons and you know, more powerful hardware than the NES? Literally exactly the same thing is happening here, the 3DS that is out right now has lag issues during battles in Pokemon X & Y, so for the New 3DS to get port of Xenoblade Chronicles means it is much more powerful than the original 3DS. This also means the New 3DS is gonna have smoother running games and possibly even higher quality rendering capabilities.

And another thing, Nintendo almost always has had two consoles available at the same time; for example, the SNES was released in 1990 (‘91 for North America), and meanwhile NES games were still being released until 1995. The Game Boy Advance was released in 2001, and the Game Boy Color wasn’t discontinued until 2003, when the GBA SP released. The DS was released in 2004, and was discontinued in 2007 for the 2006 DS Lite, and all GBA systems were discontinued in 2008, and it goes on and on and on. The 3DS is most likely still gonna be around for a few more years and so will its games, until something succeeds the 3DS and New 3DS.
